Making Tax Digital

HMRC’s objective is to become one of the most digitally advanced tax systems in the world by making it more efficient and easier for customers to comply. They have introduced MTD as a result.

Making Tax Digital has already started for businesses over the VAT threshold of £85,000.00 and this means they have had to keep digital records and submit returns electronically via software.

In April 2023, HMRC will require self-employed businesses and landlords with an income over £10,000 to follow the MTD rules.

HMRC are aiming to widen MTD to apply to Corporation Tax in following years.
